KEYENCE Photo Electric Sensors PK Series Features:  - Detection of targets of any color and material  - Detection unaffected by background  Visible beam spot - IP-67-rated waterproof housing Description: Stable detection of targets of various colors and materials The fixed-distance sensor enables stable detection of targets regardless of variations in color or material; for example, from white to black, or from a highly-reflective material to a low-reflective material. Operation unaffected by target background Once the distance for a target has been determined, the target can be detected without being affected by background reflection. Visual confirmation of beam spot position Introduction of a powerful red LED permits a beam spot of 8 mm 0.31" or less in diameter ( PK-71) to be visually confirmed and easily aligned with the target. Beam spot vs. detecting distance The PK-72? s beam spot size increases slightly as the detecting distance increases. The PK-71? s beam spot size decreases slightly as the detecting distance increases. Operating principle The light from the LED travels through a lens and is focused on the workpiece. The light reflected from the workpiece is then focused on the position-sensitive detector ( PSD) , forming a beam spot. The beam spot moves on the detector according to the distance between the sensor and workpiece. A change in workpiece color, for example from white to black, reduces the light quantity but does not alter the position of the beam spot on the PSD. Accordingly, accurate and stable detection is possible simply by detecting the beam spot position on the detector. In contrast, the diffuse-reflective type sensor detects a workpiece based on the quantity of light received.
